Hank Mattson is an interdisciplinary artist living in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Relocating from Utah for a residency at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, Hank spent most of his life on sunny California beaches and scorched Arizona deserts. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Northern Arizona University and studied Italian art and culture in Siena, Italy. Having worked in nearly every artistic medium, Hank is currently focused on block printing and oil painting. Never mild, his artworks balance unusual color with sculpturesque texturing.

In addition to making art, Hank is an instructor at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, teaching courses in painting, drawing, and printmaking.

When not creating art, Hank can be found skateboarding, cooking, reading, and spending time with friends and family.
