Five-layer reduction woodcut block print created by hand-carving and printing birch plywood. The colors were built up in a reductive manner, meaning that the block used to print the piece was carved down further between the successive layers. The Four blue colors were layered from light to dark using one reduction block. The yellow frame was added from a second carved block.
This piece is based on my experience as a gallery guard at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, where I saw someone wearing camo start to disappear in front of an abstract expressionist painting by Richard Pousette-Dart. I reimagined the scene to my own liking.
8 x 12 inch image on 11 x 14 inch Legion Thai Kozo paper. Hand-printed, signed, limited edition of 18.
